The Curse Pre Workout by Cobra Labs

ANS Performance Ritual - Our Top Rated Pre Workout

Cobra Labs enters the pre workout supplement market with a curiously named product, “The Curse”. It’s not sure if it’s a premonition or something, some people might find the package thrilling with the creepy skull with glowing eyes.

Cobra Labs The Curse – What’s it All About?

According to the their ads, The Curse is capable of:

Insane Energy

About 1 to 2 scoops 30 minutes before workout and you’ll have enough energy to juggle barbells and dumbbells.

Supporting Mental Focus

Cobra Labs also claims that The Curse is capable of giving you motivation and, their words, the aggression and desire to lift more weights. Their PWO can help you keep on going until you can’t take it anymore.

Promoting Muscle Pumps

Here’s the crunch test, The Curse contains ingredients that increase Nitrogen Oxide to provide muscle pumps. Ingredients will be discussed in depth below.

Great Taste

Comes in several flavors, Lemon Rush, Tropical storm, Blue Raspberry ice. Strong  flavors, lots of options even for the picky bodybuilder or athlete.

Giving 50 Servings per Tub

Now this might get tricky. Serving size is 1 scoop and each tub contains about 50 scoops. However, recommended dosage is 1 to 2 scoops so technically, 1 tube will last about 25 days following that recommendation. In fact, written on the tub are the directions. It says there “Mix 1-3 scoops” with 4 to 8 ounce of water (about 1 glass or 250 ml).

The Curse Ingredients

There’s really nothing new with the ingredients found in The Curse. It has three matrices or proprietary blends.

Energizing Muscle Fuel – The Usual Mix

The main matrix for energy by Cobra Labs contains standard ingredients. This matrix dose is up to 3,204 mg without any breakdown of the ingredients listed.

The Curse Dose – Too Little or Too Much?

Beta Alanine – Pretty much a well-known ingredient, Cobra Labs may have made the right choice of adding an ingredient that increases Carnosine. Unfortunately, a lot of bodybuilders and athletes don’t like the skin tingling side effect. It’s actually Paresthesia, a type of neuropathic pain. It’s not a dangerous side effect but it can be annoying.

Maybe that’s the reason this cheesy statement can be found on the directions on the tub: “Prickly Skin confirms successful DNA Mutation.” A bit ominous; unfortunately we’ll never know the true dosage of Beta Alanine in The Curse.

Creatine Monohydrate – Relatively safe ingredient that has several benefits including the replenishment of cellular ATP. Hundreds of studies have been done in the past decade only to confirm that Creatine monohydrate works. It does provide an increase of energy and you can find cheaper tubs of pure Creatine monohydrate.

Some studies show that a daily dose of 5 grams or 5,000 milligrams is needed for a significant increase in strength. The Curse already has 3,000 mg for the Energizing Muscle Fuel matrix and Creatine monohydrate is sharing the dose with 2 other ingredients.

Citric Acid – Citric acid can also be found in fruits like oranges, lemons and more. Citric acid provides energy up to 2.5 calories per gram, something we’ll never know because there’s no dosage written on the tub. It’s a naturally occurring non-essential acid.

When we burn carbs, proteins and fats for energy one of the byproducts is citric acid. It does provide energy as the liver absorbs a tiny amount of Citric acid and converts it into fat which you can burn. It takes some time for your liver to make energy from Citric acid so in a PWO, it’s not really a good ingredient.  In fact, human cells don’t absorb a lot of citric acid, instead human cells expel citric acid and most of it is just expelled by the Kidneys.

Blood Flow Amplifier – For the Muscle Pumps

Approximately 1,300 milligrams of the following nitrogen oxide precursors:

L-Citrulline Malate – A better form of Arginine, it’s not affected by Arginase compared to regular L-Arginine.

L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AAKG) – A great nitrogen oxide precursor. A study was done on the dosage needed to have a significant increase of NO in the body. About 12 grams a day was needed. 1,300 milligrams of Citrulline and AAKG might not have a great effect. At best it could generate a short burst of NO.

Overall, The Curse has a great combo for muscle pumps with Citrulline and AAKG. It’s just that the dosage might leave you needing to pack more scoops in your shaker. Maybe 3 scoops will do.

Extreme Mental Focus – Pay Attention!

The final matrix contains about 147 milligrams of two ingredients.

Caffeine – First up is caffeine. It’s one of the most researched ingredients for supplements. Caffeine can improve mental alertness, focus and cognition. Unfortunately or fortunately for some, The Curse contains less than 147 milligrams of caffeine, considering that there’s a second ingredient sharing the matrix. In a study done on healthy males, most were given up to 200 milligrams of caffeine (more than that, caffeinism or jittery side effects results). It might be a good thing as many bodybuilders and athletes prefer a low dose of caffeine.

Oleuropein Aglycone – This is a relatively new ingredient for a PWO supplement like The Curse and Cobra Labs might be on the right tract by adding a great neuroprotective ingredient to the list of ingredients. There’s no standard dosage yet but Olive oil can be consumed at relatively high dosages and contains a lot of healthy omega fatty acids. It’s not sure yet if the dosage found in The Curse will have a great effect on your central nervous system to keep you motivated all throughout your workout.

The Curse Pre Workout Supplement – Final Words

Basically, you have a pre workout supplement with low doses of great ingredients already found in supplements like DS CRAZE, Jack3d and even Jack3d Micro. The relatively low dose of the ingredients might make you use 3 scoops instead of 1 so that 50 scoop tub ain’t gonna last that long.

Still, if you’re looking for a great deal on an introductory pre workout (if you want to take it slow), the Curse by Cobra Labs is right for you.
